Washington County, UT
What the ground does here.
Washington County is where our yard is and where most of our work happens. It runs from the Arizona line north past Leeds and from Springdale west to the Nevada state line, and the ground changes a lot across that distance.
The county is also the fastest-growing corner of the state, which means new subdivisions, infill lots and a constant supply of raw parcels that need to become buildable.
What to plan for in Washington County
- Caliche hardpan across much of the St. George basin changes what machine a footing dig needs.
- Expansive Chinle blue clay around St. George, Santa Clara and Washington heaves foundations, driveways and patios.
- Thin soil over Navajo sandstone around Ivins and Kayenta turns digs into rock work.
- Cities are on sewer; Apple Valley, Hildale and most county parcels are septic.
- Septic permits run through the Southwest Utah Public Health Department, Washington County office at (435) 986-2580.
