Short Creek: One Crew, Both Sides of the Line
Hildale and Colorado City are one community sitting in two states. We’re licensed in both, so the state line is your problem for about five minutes and then it isn’t.
Short Creek, UT
Local crew, local ground.
Short Creek is the name people here actually use for the community that straddles the Utah–Arizona line: Hildale on the Utah side, Colorado City and Centennial Park on the Arizona side, tucked under Canaan Mountain.
For a contractor, that line is a real problem. Different states mean different licensing, different 811 systems, and completely different septic permitting. Most crews only handle one side. We are licensed in Utah and Arizona and we are based twenty minutes away in Apple Valley, so we handle both.
What is different about working in Short Creek
- Licensed in Utah and Arizona, so the same crew can work either side of the line.
- Septic permitting is completely different by side: Southwest Utah Public Health in Hildale, Mohave County Environmental Quality in Colorado City.
- Utility locates go through Blue Stakes 811 in Utah and Arizona 811 in Arizona; we call the right one.
- A lot of land here has only recently become privately held, so plenty of lots are starting from raw ground.
- Red sandy soil with rock and caliche mixed in, and Canaan Mountain runoff to plan drainage around.

FAQ
Questions we get from Short Creek
Where exactly is Short Creek?
It is the local name for the combined community of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City and Centennial Park, Arizona, sitting at the base of Canaan Mountain on the Utah-Arizona line.
Are you licensed on both sides?
Yes. Diggin' Riggin' is licensed in Utah and Arizona, so we can take the job whichever side of the line the property is on.
Does the state line change my septic permit?
Completely. In Hildale it runs through the Southwest Utah Public Health Department. A few hundred feet south in Colorado City it runs through Mohave County Development Services Environmental Quality on an Arizona Notice of Intent to Discharge. We handle either.
How far away are you?
About twenty minutes, from Apple Valley up Highway 59.
