Trenching & utility lines
Trenching, Water & Sewer Lines
Clean, to-depth trenches for water lines, sewer laterals, power, gas sleeves and conduit, plus full sewer line replacement when the camera says it is time.

What we trench
Straight, to depth, bedded and backfilled properly.
A trench is cheap to dig and expensive to dig wrong. Wrong depth freezes a water line. Bad bedding bellies a sewer lateral. Poor compaction leaves a sinking stripe across your driveway two years later. We do the boring parts right: Blue Stakes locates, correct depth and slope, sand bedding where it belongs, compaction in lifts.
We also replace failed sewer lines. Our camera finds the break, we open one clean section, replace it and restore the surface.

Local ground
Trenching through caliche, clay and rock.
A water or sewer line is only as good as the trench it sits in. Southern Utah ground throws three things at a trench.
Caliche
Hardpan turns a rental-trencher job into a breaker job. We bring the right bucket and teeth, so a quick trench doesn’t turn into a week.
Blue clay
Clay holds water against a pipe and heaves when it swells. Proper bedding and backfill keep the line from bellying or shifting.
Sandstone & rock
Rock means a narrower, slower cut and sand bedding so the pipe never rests on a sharp edge. We price it honestly up front.
FAQ
Common questions
How deep does a water line need to be in southern Utah?
Deep enough to stay below frost and protected from surface loads; local code and the utility set the number for your area. We trench to the required depth and bed the line properly.
Can you replace a sewer line without digging up the whole yard?
Usually we can limit it to the bad section. We camera the line first, mark the exact spot and depth, then open only what needs replacing.
Do you call utility locates?
Always. Blue Stakes of Utah (811) is called before every trench.
Do you backfill and compact, or just dig?
We dig, bed, backfill and compact. Leaving a trench for someone else to fill is how you get a sunken stripe across the yard.
